Duck and cover, anyone?

This was taken at an abandoned Happy Chef restaurant in Onawa, Iowa. You used to be able to press a button and hear the Happy Chef statue sing "Mairzy Doats." The statue is gone, but I will always remember standing in the parking lots listening to the end of his wooden spoon. That didn't come out quite right...

This about sums up Beale Street
Beale Street is kind of like the French Quarter, but only kind of. It's touristy, loud, and looks much better in the dark. No Dixieland. Only the same three chords again and again, occasionally punctuated by an overenthusiastic harmonica player. STAX is much cooler...

Sorry I don't have any of the photography geek data on this one. If I find it I'll update the entry, but don't hold your breath.
This was taken in late summer, just as the sun was getting low in the sky. I loved the warmth the light gave to the stonework (which, sadly, doesn't seem to be showing up in the online version of the photo). It may not be all that artistic, but it's what you get when you take pictures from a car on Wisconsin Avenue during rush hour.
